Besides moving my sister and her husband and doing some mending for her, I managed to meet all of my goals and then some.  Whoohoo!

The number one priority goal is the Jacob’s Ladder blocks for the three king size quilts I need to finish this year.  I did reach my goal of 36:

In addition to these blocks, I completed 12 of the quad Log Cabin blocks which is more than I’ve been able to complete in a single month so far:

Then I decided it was high time I finished a set of 7 tea towels I started the first week of December 2016.  I learned a lot about my embroidery machine working on these since the lettering would not fit in my 4 x 4 field.  I used a movable hoop and learned how to mark things and line them up.  I’m pretty new to this embroidery machine game.  LOLIMG_7188

And since I had the embroidery machine stuff strewn all over the place, I decided to make a set of 5 tea towels for one of my granddaughters for her birthday:

After I finished the embroidery, I did a bit of cleaning and straightening in my studio.  While I was whistling while I worked, I had a brainstorm.  My shelving for my fabric stash and other treasures is made from two shuttered bi-fold closet doors and 5 boards.  It dawned on me that those shutters showing on the end could work harder than just holding up 5 boards.  They could also hold my cones of quilting thread.  Here is what my husband and I came up with:

Now isn’t that just handy dandy?

Oh, and I almost forgot about the doll dress I finished.  I did the embroidery whilst all that stuff was out, and then I put the fasteners on the jumper and the tee:

Maggie really likes the bee on her red corduroy jumper.

Then I finished a blanket my youngest granddaughter started about 4 years ago:

And to finish off the month, I took a strip of fabric and folded it just so and sewed it up, added a pair of folding scissors, and then put it with the other stuff I made for one of my sisters for her birthday:

I think that’s it.  Like I said, it’s been a mighty busy and productive month!

Happy Crafting,

May not be true but seems I got more done in February than in January.  Perhaps it just feels that way because February is a short month and I got at least as much done this month as last.

I completed 36 Jacob’s Ladder blocks – 3 each of the 12 pictured,

In addition I completed 5 quad Log Cabin blocks,

2 pincushions and a sewing kit,

and made some progress on the Teddy bear I’m making.  I now have the arms, legs, and body sewn.  Have not yet started joining all those pieces into one Teddy bear yet.  LOL

Hope your month was at least as productive as mine.

Happy crafting,

Lana

First Finish of the Month

I made a cute little coverlet for the doll cradle I posted last month.  It is the same fabric and lace so didn’t take a picture of it.  It’s a simple rectangle with a narrow hem at the top and lace sewn on the other three sides.  Now the doll cradle is complete.

Second Finishes of the Month

I made two pincushions – one for myself and one to give my sister for her birthday.

See it there under “JANOME” on the lower right?  Now I won’t be constantly looking for my pincushion.  It’s tied to my machine!  LOL

Other Projects On Tap

I’m still working on the Jacob’s Ladder blocks and have already finished 9 of the 36 I plan to make this month.  I also started making a Teddy bear.  I’ve never made one before, so this could get interesting.  So far I’ve sewn the paw pads to the arms and sewn the arms together.  It will be slow going.

Other projects I’m working in are cutting some scraps into 2 1/2″ squares and strips, repairing a quilt top that was given to me so I can quilt it, and making more quad Log Cabin blocks.  Busy, busy!

Happy Sewing, Quilting, and Crafting,

Lana

With A Teensy Bit of Adjustment

I finished all 36 Jacob’s Ladder blocks that I planned on making this month.  I must admit that I found that my original goal of 45 blocks was too much with all the other things in my life, so I had to adjust down.  My new goal for each month for 6 months is to finish 36 Jacob’s Ladder blocks and work toward finishing one other less time consuming project.  I finished two this month that were in an earlier post (which I noticed has somehow mysteriously disappeared from my blog and so will fix it later).

Since I am making 3 identical blocks, I only used 1 of each set in my picture.

Okay, something happened to my first post for these finishes.  The title stayed while the body of the post disappeared.  So am attempting to recreate it.  As Winnie the Pooh would say, “Oh, bother.”

My first finish of the year was the Crochet Fusion quilt.  I ripped out the last two rounds of crocheted edging three times before I figured out what was wrong.  The count was off because I used 5″ squares of fabric rather than 6″ squares as in the original pattern.  I had to make some adjustments which happily are indiscernable unless you actually do some counting or look very, very closely.  Now who would do such a thing!  LOL

I am pleased with my finished blanket:

My second finish of the year is a doll cradle.  My niece gave me some pink and ivory decor fabrics some time back, and then I found this cute pink doll cradle at a yard sale.

After much thinking and draping of fabric and cutting of fabric and sewing of fabric and lace, it now looks like this:

My little antique dolls love their new bed.

Remember these?  The squares for the High Tea Crochet Fusion quilt?

img_6958

Well, while watching TV yesterday evening, I looked at a few more ways to join crochet squares and decided on one – the single crochet join.  I’ve done all the horizontal joins and am ready to start the vertical ones.  It went pretty fast once I made a decision.  Here is what it looks like now.

Here’s a closeup in case you can’t tell what I’ve done.

This pretty little quilt may very well be my first finish of the year although I’m nearing completion on another that I’ll post before and after pictures once it is finished.  In the meantime………………………………..

Happy Quilting,

Lana

Still on schedule for January and still going strong.  In other words, my want to has not waned.  LOL

I finished three more Jacob’s Ladder blocks and another quad Log Cabin block.  Just for fun I am showing them with the other blocks I finished earlier this week.

And a whole lot more to come.
